Liberty or Death asked:
I am taking a graduate class and we have been assigned a 200 - 300 page book per week. I have never been a particularly fast reader, but I guess I get to learn now. These are not books where I need to know every intimate detail, but understand them enough to talk about them intelligently. Do any of you have pointers on how to read books quickly while still retaining a reasonable amount of information?

I want to improve my reading speed and comprehension by a considerable amount. Are there any books that would not only tell me how to improve my reading speed but why the techniques work.

Is it possible to speed-read and still retain information as if you were reading normally?

Speed-read meaning you are consciously reading really fast, faster than what is comfortable. While you are reading it, you are still comprehending. I am wondering if you still retain the information after a month or so, and do you retain it better, worse, or the same as normal-speed reading.

Any information on the subject of speed-reading is appreciated.
Thank you very much.

I’ve to take a LEED test and I feel I cannot retain what I am reading (lots of abstract memorization required) and I get easily distracted because I’ not so compelled by the structure of what I’m reading.
If I try to read a little quicker, I seem able to stay focused more instead.
I have never taken classes on speed-reading. Any quick advice-suggestion on how to do it?

How can I improve my reading speed?

I’m a hopeless bibliophile; I love books and I love reading. I’ve got a stack of books I’m trying to get through (the top couple of books on the pile are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Atlas Shrugged, and Freakonomics to satisfy the curious; I read all kinds of books) But I’m just not getting though them fast enough! It’s kind of frustrating sometimes. “So many books, so little time”, as they say.
Dose anyone have suggestion on how I can increase my reading speed? It’s just fine as is, I just want to read faster so I can get more book read in a shorter amount of time. Are there books on the subject? Are there [low cost] classes that I could take? Do you have any simple tips? I’d love to hear your input.

i have so many books i want to read but i dont like taking 3 or 4 minutes to read a relatively normal page. a even bigger problem is i rarely remember anything i read, even if i enjoy the book. this causes a problem if i need to read a text book. i dont want to take 2 hours to read 20pages 2 or 3 times.
